He had passed the point of turning back. Only clouds and darkness surrounded him.
The concrete labyrinth grew darker the further he rode, and quieter and more solitary the deeper they ventured. Step after step, echos were muffled, and dampened to silence until finally his horse’s steps made no sound at all.
The air was too dank for a torch, but the faraway lights above and before them baited the two forward, into the bleak miasma.
But were he only to know that at no point was he ever alone, he could have prepared for what was stalking them through the mist…
